What New Patients Need to Know

Please arrive 15 to 30 minutes early for your first appointment to fill out forms. You may also download these forms here and complete them ahead of time. This helps us provide affordable treatments because it reduces the time needed for paperwork, and it increases the time available to spend treating patients.

Your treatment can be of any length of time. You can decide how long you’d like to stay. You might become deeply relaxed and sleepy during a treatment and want to stay an hour; or, you may begin to feel alert and ready to go after 30 or 40 minutes. When you feel ready, just look towards our practitioner, and she will remove your needles.

Preparing for Your Treatment

Do's & Dont's

  • Do wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. The treatment requires that you expose your legs up to the knee, and your hands and arms up to the elbow. Please do not wear tight pants or stockings.
  • Do eat something an hour or two before your appointment.
  • Don’t wear perfume or smoke for about an hour before your appointment so that you don’t disturb other patients in the community room. Some people have allergies to strong smelling substances or are sensitive to strong odors.

What To Expect

  • At your first appointment, we will discuss your health concerns in a private consultation room. Next, we will go to the community room and you will be asked to select a chair and remove your socks and shoes. Our practitioner will take your pulse at the wrist and at the neck to determine which meridians are involved.
  • The needles are hair-thin and sterile, single-use needles. Insertion is usually painless. After you are needled, you may relax quietly, or meditate. Many patients fall asleep. There is usually soothing music playing softly in the background. The temperature is usually warm and comfortable, but if you feel cold, there are blankets available.
  • If you need to be somewhere at a certain time, please let the practitioner know when to wake you and remove the needles so that you can be on your way.
  • After your treatment, please use caution; you may be a little drowsy or light headed. Take your time readjusting to the world outside the clinic and be very careful about driving after your treatment. Please also avoid any strenuous exercise for 4-6 hours after a treatment.
